Encoding Empathy in Business and Artificial Intelligence

As companies seek to enhance their operations through Artificial Intelligence initiatives, many projects are doomed to fail. Some suggest the possibility of another AI winter: much discussion, but little concrete progress. Artificial Intelligence can undoubtedly contribute meaningfully, but leaders often set -- without necessarily realizing it -- expectations that are too high and/or do not apply the appropriate resources. The ways in which Artificial Intelligence is applied in businesses, whether in back-end (logistics, data analytics, operations, employee engagement, etc.) or customer-facing (chatbots, content creation and distribution, personnel recruitment), each requires specific skills and multidisciplinary teams. In this talk, Minter explains how and why you should flex your empathetic muscle and how to encode empathy into your business and your artificial intelligence projects.

How to Succeed in Digital Transformation by Strengthening Your Empathic Muscle

It is now common to read that companies must adapt to survive. However, when it comes to embarking on "digital transformation," there is a lot of resistance, and too often, the results are not forthcoming. According to a 2016 study, 84% of digital transformation programs fail. In this talk, we will discover the keys to success for your transformation program, but with an unconventional angle. Minter Dial will explain why empathy has become so important and what ways there are to foster this quality in business. In the near future, with advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), we will discuss the integration of emotion and empathy into machines and bots. Minter will present ways to articulate your AI strategy, when and how to encode it with empathy. He will also raise ethical questions that impact this work. In the end, you will understand why and how to strengthen the empathic muscle of your organization to bring about positive results in your digital transformation. To learn more, refer to Minter Dial's new book in English, Heartificial Empathy, Putting Heart into Business and Artificial Intelligence (released in Dec. 2018 by Digitalproof Press).
