Milija Van Cappel

Psychology, flow and sustainable performance

speaker-picture

Doctor in psychology, speaker and practitioner, Milija van Cappel has been exploring for over ten years the conditions that allow individuals and teams to give their best in a sustainable way. Holding a PhD in work and organizational psychology from the University of Paris Descartes, she has been conducting research for several years on Flow, motivation, collaboration, and collective performance. Her scientific work has led to several international publications and continues today to inform her interventions with companies. In parallel to her research activities, Milija works as a psychologist in private practice in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, where she supports individuals facing issues of stress, anxiety, burnout, self-confidence, or life transitions. This clinical practice allows her to maintain direct contact with the human realities behind the challenges of performance and well-being. Her career is also marked by several years of experience in companies as a UX researcher and human behavior specialist, particularly in demanding technological environments. This dual academic and operational expertise enables her to bridge the gap between research knowledge and the concrete challenges faced by organizations. Through her conferences, Milija offers a perspective that is both scientific, accessible, and deeply human on topics such as Flow, attention, engagement, intrinsic motivation, sustainable performance, cognitive overload, and quality of life at work. Her style is recognized for its ability to make complex concepts accessible, to provoke reflection, and to provide participants with concrete keys to understand the mechanisms underlying individual and collective performance. Her ambition: to help organizations create the conditions in which performance and flourishing cease to oppose each other and begin to mutually reinforce.

Conference #1

Sustainable performance: the path of flow

Why do some people seem able to maintain a high level of performance while preserving their energy, creativity, and engagement? Why do some teams excel sustainably while others burn out under pressure? This conference offers a new perspective on performance at work through the concept of flow, developed by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Flow refers to that state of deep concentration and total engagement in which we are fully absorbed in what we are doing. Time seems to pass differently, action becomes smoother, and we feel we are operating at our best level. At a time when organizations face increasing challenges of cognitive overload, fragmented attention, stress, and disengagement, flow offers a particularly relevant framework. This conference explores the psychological mechanisms underlying sustainable performance and shows why constant pressure is not an effective long-term strategy. Through concrete examples, research findings, and directly applicable tools, participants discover the conditions that foster the emergence of flow, both at the individual and collective levels. They learn how the quality of attention, intrinsic motivation, clarity of goals, and the balance between challenge and skills influence our ability to give our best. Accessible, interactive, and grounded in the realities of the professional world, this conference is aimed at leaders, managers, teams, and professionals facing demanding environments where intellectual performance is essential. Far from purely motivational approaches, it offers a reflection based on scientific psychology and a simple conviction: The most sustainable performance does not emerge from constant tension, but from the conditions that allow human beings to fully engage in what they do.
