Technological Evangelism. Spirituality of Silicon Valley Companies
At different points in his life, Steve Jobs explained that the foundation of Apple was not to make boxes that help people do their work. He viewed his technologies as mediums through which his company expressed fundamental values, a desire to revolutionize the world, to overturn the established order, and to experience a form of mystical feeling. These values are directly derived from the countercultural past of the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly from the hippie movement of which Jobs was a notable member. This particular culture is now at the heart of Silicon Valley companies and is reflected at all levels of their functioning: marketing, management, industrial design, developer ecosystem, distribution network, etc. In this conference, Rémi Durand proposes to revisit the unique history of Silicon Valley and then to look in detail at how companies like Apple and Google have been built and draw their vitality and dynamism from this particular context. This central theme is adaptable to the interests of the audience. A preliminary interview is planned to calibrate the speech.
