Romain Gioux - Speaker on handicap invisible
THIRST FOR LIFE: People talk to me about resilience. I talk about the thirst for life: moving forward, adapting, and continuing to aim high, even when everything is not under control.
RESILIENCE IS ONLY PART OF THE STORY I have long used this word to tell my story. Resilience. It is accurate. But it is no longer enough. Resilience tells of our ability to withstand a shock, to adapt, and to rise again. It does not explain what makes us want to start over. In my case, this driving force has always been the same: An immense thirst for life. The desire to discover. To try. To progress. To share. To build new projects. And sometimes to attempt something of which I do not yet know if I am capable. This is not to deny difficulties. It is to learn to face reality without abandoning our ambitions. And this question goes far beyond sports. It concerns our professions, our teams, our failures, our health, the changes we did not choose, and all those moments when the initial plan no longer works.
A STORY THAT CANNOT BE CONTAINED IN A RECORD Professional cyclist with Team Novo Nordisk. More than twenty years of high-level sports. Victory at the Half Ironman in Nice. Two qualifications for the Half Ironman World Championships. International-level paracyclist and French champion in the team time trial in 2026. Then, in 2026: the 24 HOURS OF LE MANS BIKE — SOLO 185 laps 775 kilometers 20 hours 50 on the bike 7th in the solo ranking With type 1 diabetes. With bilateral vestibulopathy. With rain, night, fatigue, and scientific protocols carried out during the event. But the most important number may be none of those. It is everything this adventure has made me want to do afterward.

LIVING WITH THE INVISIBLE Type 1 diabetes. Idiopathic bilateral vestibulopathy. Two realities that are not necessarily visible when you meet me. Strength lies in what we decide to make of it. My experience now allows me to speak concretely about invisible disability, inclusion, health at work, adaptation, and the determining role of the entourage and the collective. Without heroization. Without misery. With the reality of someone who lives these issues every day.

THIRST FOR LIFE: A conference on commitment, adaptation, ambition, the collective, and above all, the desire to live and act fully.
What drives us forward when everything doesn’t go as planned.
I’m not here to recount a series of sporting exploits. I tell what happens between the exploits. The moments when we need to revise the plan. The doubts. The failures. The fear. The decisions. The constant adaptations. The people we need.
And that energy that allows us to keep moving forward without waiting for all the conditions to be perfect.
Through my journey as a professional athlete, a patient, a person living with an invisible disability, and a man confronted with uncertainty, I approach performance from a different angle: Not waiting to have all the cards in hand to fully play the ones we have.
PERFORMING WITH REALITY: Performance is often presented as the result of a perfectly controlled environment. My life has taught me exactly the opposite.
Performance is often presented as the result of a perfectly controlled environment.
My life has taught me exactly the opposite.
A diabetes does not disappear on the day of a competition. A vestibulopathy does not disappear because the goal is important. Fatigue, unforeseen events, failures, and constraints do not either.
So we must learn to do something else: Transform the constraint into a parameter. Understand what depends on us. Accept what does not depend on us. Prepare several scenarios. Decide despite uncertainty. Surround ourselves. And continue to aim high.
This is what I have learned in high-level sports.
This is also what companies experience daily.
