Conference #2

It's time to bet on Soft Skills!

Today's skills are not sufficient to adapt to the world of tomorrow. Since 2018, governments around the world have committed to a vision of 'Education 2030' involving many changes to our education systems. Indeed, the OECD report 'The Future of Education and Skills 2030' highlighted the growing importance of non-technical skills in education due to trends such as globalization, rapid technological advancements, and artificial intelligence, which require future workers to adapt continuously. This report states that 'to remain competitive, workers will need to continually acquire new skills, which requires flexibility, a positive attitude towards lifelong learning, and curiosity.' This means that the education system must now prepare new learners for jobs that do not yet exist. Because yes, we know that 65% of schoolchildren will work in jobs that do not yet exist. This observation was finally echoed by the scientific council of the National Education following the Grenelle of Education held in December 2020: 'While reading, writing, and counting are the key skills that must be provided by the institution and teachers, other skills are now also required and reinforce the acquisition of advanced cognitive skills such as critical thinking, new behavioral and social skills.' However, the latest PISA survey shows that France consistently ranks last in the development of Soft Skills: • Confidence in one's abilities: 62nd out of 65 • Anxiety: 62nd out of 65 • Perceived control of success: 58th out of 65 • Openness to problem-solving: 53rd out of 65 • Collaboration: 49th out of 60 These are essential skills to navigate our rapidly changing world. Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen the acquisition of these famous Soft Skills (socio-behavioral skills) to support young people in academic success and professional integration. After spending 13 years internationally as an HR Director managing the careers of employees based on their soft skills, I will explain how to develop them from ages 7 to 77!
