Conference titled "how to maintain our skills under pressure", the experience of RAID and high-level judo. A motivational, instructive, and spectacular conference.

My conference is titled "how to maintain our skills under pressure - The experience of high-level sports and RAID". It is an inspiring, joyful, dynamic, and instructive conference on the theme of commitment and optimizing our mental skills to remain competent under pressure. My conference is based on the principle that even though all stresses are different, even though all stakes are different... the internal mechanism of stress is identical, whether it is sports-related, war-related, academic, personal... or corporate. Regardless of their profession, when a person loses their self-confidence, for example, they will use the same tricks as another person to remedy it. The same applies to all other mental skills. This conference synthesizes my experience as an international judo competitor, national coach of police judo, member of the RAID assault unit, and speaker in the corporate world since 2018. I was part of the French judo team for 5 years, from 1990 to 1995, and notably won the Paris tournaments in 1990 and Los Angeles in 1993. I won the European Champions Cup with the Racing Club de France in 1993. I was the national coach of police judo, and I hold a 6th dan black belt. I spent 20 years in the RAID assault unit, the elite intervention unit of the national police from 1998 to 2018. I participated in several hundred arrests and interventions: an assault operator typically conducts about 50 interventions per year. I took part in many emblematic operations of the Unit, including the Colonna case, Charlie Hebdo, the release of 26 hostages from the hyper cacher at the Porte de Vincennes, the assaults on November 13, 2015, and that of Saint Denis on November 18, during the Merah case in Toulouse in March 2012, where the terrorist shot me twice, once in the shoulder and once in the helmet, and I was awarded the Legion of Honor for acts of arms. I joined the RAID assault unit at the age of 33, when my physical abilities were at their peak as I was just finishing my judo career in the French team. I left this unit 20 years later at the age of 53. My physical abilities had obviously declined, compensated by my technical skills that I had honed and by my mental skills that I had developed. It is this experience that I convey during my conference. I am a hands-on person, and I designed this conference with the aim of delivering a concrete message so that my audience leaves with immediately usable tools in their professional and personal lives. During this conference, I will guide your attention to more than 20 points such as: - How to reactivate our confidence. - How to choose our thoughts as we choose our clothes in the morning. - How to build "shield thoughts" to dodge our inappropriate thoughts. - How to manage change and uncertainty and thus be more agile. - How to manage our vigilance to position ourselves at will in our optimum activation zone. - How to compartmentalize our professional life from our private life. - What to focus on at the beginning of an action. - How to benefit from the strengths of the collective. - How to physically and mentally relax despite the pressure. - How to control our emotions. ... These tools have served me in RAID as well as in the French judo team, and they can serve in all other fields... including of course the corporate field. I have already had the opportunity to give conferences for companies such as Société Générale, Andros, Orano, SOCFIM, CEA, Autoroutes-trafic, ACLH lawyers, EDF, PSG, Paris Airport, Danone, Safran, BNP Paribas, BNI national and Anjou Poitou, CNOSF, Simon-Kucher, Union des Mousquetaires, a+énergie, Databricks, Salesforce, Banque de France, APREH, Gestinnov, Leroy Merlin, CEJICAM, Harmonie Mutuelle, ELIOR... I have participated in two TEDx talks "managing your stress: the RAID experience" and "RAID: facing the unpredictable".

Who am I?
What made me become a speaker
The desire to share my skills (I was a judo teacher at a very young age). The desire to entertain (I have been a cohesion leader in all my jobs). The desire to perform (I have always been a competitor). The desire to be happy (I understood early on that success is not the key to happiness and that happiness and well-being are the keys to success).
A failure or turning point that shaped me
I was shot twice by a terrorist during an intervention.
What excites me about working as a speaker
Human contact and the show.
The mission I'm carrying today
To entertain and educate. The joy of living is my driving force.
The belief or message I want to leave for the long term
Everything is possible; you just have to want it and roll up your sleeves.
A personal story I often tell
It is very easy to overcome pessimism and boost optimism. It is concretely and quickly achievable. I talk about various techniques, including the "black wolf and white wolf".

Speaking style
My energy on stage
My goal is to be as dynamic as possible to anchor strong emotions in my audience.
How audiences experience my sessions (participation, humor, pace)
The pace is high; I am aware that to animate seminars that are very studious, I must not adopt a professorial posture, but rather a dynamic and spectacular attitude.
Visuals and personal stories: what to expect from me
It is an inspiring, joyful, dynamic, spectacular, and instructive conference on the theme of engagement and optimizing our mental skills to remain competent under pressure. I am very visual. In terms of form, I balance three objectives: - To be surprising, inspiring, and motivating… this is the "wow aspect" of my experience in the RAID assault team. I rely on some compelling anecdotes from interventions to address mental preparation topics. - To be instructive… I am aware of your need for a "return on investment." I guarantee your collaborators concrete tools that I have successfully used myself. - To be enthusiastic, joyful, entertaining, spectacular… because I most often intervene to animate seminars and working sessions that require being punctuated by a less formal breathing period. I promise you not only smiles but also laughter.
Inspirational keynote vs hands-on workshop; improvisation vs tight structure — how I work
My conference is more of a monologue, but I provide concrete keys that can be immediately used, and I generally respond to a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.
How I customize content and how much I tailor to you
I address several points. But after a preliminary discussion with my employer, I reduce or increase the content of the points that interest them the most.
What makes my sessions memorable
I set a high pace, provide a lot of information, and perform sketches full of humor and emotions.
The strongest moments and insights I create for audiences
I incorporate theatrical sketches into my conference that leave a mark on my audience.
The emotion or mindset I want people to leave with
I want to be exciting and engaging.
Concrete content
The main takeaways participants leave with
- By taking the interventions of November 13, 2015, as an example, I address the importance of focusing on the present action, without being polluted by reminiscences of the past or projections into the future.
- By taking my career as a judoka in the French team as an example, I talk about the importance of positioning ourselves in our optimum activation zone. That is to say, knowing how to energize ourselves when necessary and knowing how to recover when possible. The goal is to be effective and remain so throughout the day.
- What to focus our attention on at the beginning of an action… to start the professional task without latency time. Knowing how to convert "dead time" into useful time to avoid wasting time.
- By taking the example of January 9, 2015, and the Hyper Cacher intervention, I will explain how to remain relaxed at the heart of the action to stay effective and operational, even under pressure.
- Learning to know oneself to increase the number of solutions available to us in case of crisis. Self-awareness is the first step to self-mastery.
- Staying balanced in imbalance. That is to say, adding our paradoxes to increase our adaptability rather than accepting the labels that are placed on our foreheads, labels that reduce our qualities: we can take care of details without being petrified by perfectionism, we can be wise without depriving ourselves of being a joker, we can be courageous while remaining cautious… etc.
- How to compartmentalize our professional life, our private life, our sports life… so as not to pollute one of these lives with elements from our other lives. This at the level of our reflections, our thoughts, our emotions…
- How to choose our thoughts as we choose our clothes in the morning. How to automate our thoughts.
- How to build shield thoughts to remain impermeable to negative thoughts.
- How to remain rustic to keep our two engines, which are the engine of reflection and the engine of intuition (reflex, innate…).
- How to ensure that our capacity for reflection does not glitch under very high pressure. How to create a crisis-specific capacity for reflection.
- How to automate as many things as possible (actions, emotions, thoughts) to remain effective and fit throughout the day.
- By taking the Merah affair as an example, I will show how to reactivate our confidence when necessary.
- How not to worry about our physiological reactions in case of stress so as not to add fear to fear.
- How to commit 100%.
- How to benefit from the strengths of the collective.
- The three main advantages of a positive attitude: Professional success due to enthusiasm and deliberate practice, integration into groups to benefit from information exchanges, and the interest concerning management.
What your audience can apply the very next day
I provide practical tips that can be immediately used: to manage thoughts, to cultivate optimism, to prepare for action before a meeting, a decision-making process, to compartmentalize private and professional life, to compartmentalize competitions, interventions, meetings, to benefit from the strengths of the collective...
Tools, methods, and exercises I provide
I offer the tools that accompanied me during my 20 years in the RAID assault team.
Real-world examples that best illustrate my message
I participated in the RAID assault team in the last emblematic interventions of the Unit: Colonna, Merah, Charlie Hebdo, Hyper Cacher, November 13, 2015, Saint-Denis... I was also in the French judo team... And now I have 8 years of experience in corporate conferences.
Beliefs or ideas in the audience I aim to shift
We can develop our mental skills just as we develop our physical and technical skills.
The “aha moment” I aim for your audience
I pay particular attention to my introduction to set the tone and engage my audience. I take care of my conclusion so that I am never forgotten.
Limits & transparency
How I handle a difficult or low-energy audience
It is my role to energize. A coach must be engaging. I am not afraid to perform my presentation just after lunch... I have even performed during a company's snack break, with the sounds of crumpling aluminum and professional phone calls. It's a challenge to overcome and a great opportunity to master one's thought biases: a person tapping on their phone is not automatically disinterested; they are often someone taking notes!
If tech fails: how I respond
I am able to deliver my presentation without educational support.
How I handle tough questions and running over time
I know how to stay within my speaking time; I use a timer that is imperceptible to the audience. For difficult questions, I believe it is the hallmark of a speaker to be challenged by tough questions and not to be destabilized... this is also my area: my conference aims to teach how to manage stress!
What can derail a session, in my view — and how I prevent it
Falling ill before the presentation. I make sure to stay fit and healthy all year round.
Logistics & organization
What technical setup I need on site
An HDMI connection to project some images, a few key words, and a short 2-minute video.
My tech rider or logistics document
I have a reminder document to hand over at the end of the presentation.
Whether I travel internationally and if I need an interpreter
I accept international travel, but I am only French-speaking. I have already performed with simultaneous interpreters.
My slides, filming, and reusing recordings
I provide my slides, but I refuse to be filmed and for the recording to be reused.
My availability before/after, networking, meet & greet
I am of course available before and after the presentation.
Working together
Why organizers like working with me
I have no whims, I am reliable, and I know how to adapt: judo is the art of mental flexibility!
